Win, Lose, Succeed, Fail
September 21, 2009

You may be one of them. I am. Maybe not all the time, but I still do it. So, I guess I’m not as spiritual or as mature in the Faith as I’d like others to think I am. I realize I still have a ways to go.

What I’m talking about is the ability to discern between two big players in our lives: Excitement and Passion.    You see, it goes something like this: We get this great idea (whatever it is) and almost immediately we’re on the road to accomplish it and tell others about it way too soon. We prop it up like it’s a mission from God.

Problem is, if it’s only a desire…it doesn’t last…at least not very long. But if it’s what some call “passion,” well then, watch out…nothing can stop it! We’ll be relentless in its pursuit. What I have noticed is that “desire mixed with excitement might get you to the place you want to go, but it is the call of God coupled with passion that will get and keep you there.”

In the big scheme of things, ‘excitement’ falls short and actually fails in the end. The remedy for this waste of time and effort is to learn to “perceive” what the Spirit of God is actually prompting inside of you.  Then, after that, it’s about the timing of it—the when and the where?

I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to catch myself wasting any more of my life with this sort of thing. The 1440 minutes in each day shouldn’t be squandered pursuing exciting things when there are things I’m totally passionate about.  Maybe it’s time for all of us to get a grip on what our God given callings really are and let the realm of excitement take a back seat to the real passions God placed in our heart.

What do you think? Have you found this to be true? Comment back. Let others hear you.
